Pork Siomai Recipe

As I’ve said before, food is absolutely one of my weaknesses. I just can’t say no to it!

This weekend I wanted to make one of my favorite street foods at home... SIOMAI, baby! Yay!

Shumai or shao mai (siomai in the Philippines) is a type of pork dumpling that originated from China.  I believe the siomai that we Filipinos have learned to love is of the Cantonese variety. It is typically filled with ground pork and shrimps along with peas and carrots wrapped in wonton wrapper, it could be steamed or fried, best served with soy sauce with calamansi and/or chili pepper (I love it spicy!).

While at the grocery, I was very delighted to see a prepared/pre-mixed pork siomai filling at the meat section. So in an instant, I was back to being the lazy me and thought it would be a great time saver since I won’t be starting from scratch mixing ingredients and doing the tantiya with everything. Since I already have the filling, I only need one more thing and that is wonton wrappers. Luckily, they were also available at the grocery that time so I didn’t have to scour the whole palengke of Candon City just to find it.

Using my stock knowledge, (It still surprises me how come there's still something stocked up. In all fairness to me. ha ha) I did the wrapping my own. Gawd! It's sooo hard! LOL. My mistake was not researching about it before doing it. It could have been nicer and better. #epicfail

After wrapping, it's cooking steaming time! It's probably the hardest part because I had to wait for about 15 minutes.

Tadah! Here's my final product!

Verdict? Because I was so excited to to eat it, the top part was a little tough pa (I'm such a patay-gutom kasi. ha ha). Pero the top part lang naman... otherwise it was perfect naman na with soy sauce, calamansi and sili alongside! ha ha

Anyways, this is my first attempt of doing siomai... so don't judge me! LOL

If you want the perfect way to make Pork Siomai, this recipe via panlasangpinoy.com seems nice.

Kudos chicas!

Happy weekend!
